BARATON, Kenya – The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) hosted the official installation of Mzee Augustine Kisorio as the National Chairman of the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders, a landmark occasion that celebrated cultural heritage, traditional leadership, and community unity across the Kalenjin nation.
The ceremony brought together distinguished leaders, respected elders, and community members from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, reaffirming the important role traditional institutions continue to play in promoting peace, unity, moral leadership, and the preservation of cultural values. The event underscored the significance of safeguarding cultural heritage while strengthening the foundation upon which future generations can build a united and prosperous society.
Among the leaders present were Hon. Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service; Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration; and H.E. Stephen Sang, Governor of Nandi County. They were joined by several elected leaders, cultural leaders, and elders from across the region, highlighting the importance of the occasion to the wider Kalenjin community.
The installation of Mzee Augustine Kisorio was celebrated as recognition of his distinguished service, wisdom, and commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the Nandi people. As National Chairman of the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders, he assumes the responsibility of providing leadership in advancing unity, preserving cultural traditions, and promoting the dignity and heritage of the community.
University of Eastern Africa, Baraton Vice Chancellor, Prof. Msafiri M. Jackson, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mzee Augustine Kisorio on his installation as the National Chairman of the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders. Prof. Jackson noted that the honor bestowed upon Mzee Kisorio is a testament to his exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving the community.

The Vice Chancellor further commended the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders for its continued role in promoting social cohesion, preserving cultural values, and providing moral guidance within the community.
