The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, is a chartered Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning, located in Nandi County, 50 Kilometers from Eldoret town, Kenya. It is supervised and managed jointly by the West and East Kenya Union Conferences of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and serves primarily the country of Kenya and other countries in East and Central Africa such as DR Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Tanzania, South Sudan and beyond.


The University has a current student population of about 4,500, enrolled in the following programs: Theology/Religion, Education, Business Administration, Health Sciences, Humanities, Sciences and Technology.  The University has both local and international faculty and students drawn from more than 20 countries around the world.

The Office of the Vice-Chancellor will be vacated on August 1, 2024.  In this regard, the University invites suitable, qualified, and competent applicants to fill the position of Vice-Chancellor who shall serve for a term of five years, effective August 1, 2024, renewable once.

For appointment to this position, the candidate must: –
  • Be a Seventh-day Adventist in regular standing, with clear connection to a Seventh-day Adventist church.
  • Have an earned PhD degree from a University recognized in Kenya;
  • Be at least an Associate Professor in a university recognized in Kenya;
  • Have at least ten (10) years of university academic teaching and research experience
  • Must have served for a period of at least five (5) years, with measurable results, in a senior academic administrative position.
  • Demonstrate proven knowledge and experience in the application of ICT in administration, teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the laws, policies, and regulations governing Universities in Kenya.
  • Have demonstrable knowledge in the structural, administrative and financial operations of a university.
  • Have demonstrable fundraising capacity.
  • Have supervised at least three (3) masters and one (1) PhD degree students to completion.

  • Knowledge of principles and practice of Adventist education
  • Ability to promote and portray a positive national and international image and work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity to and respect for diversity
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills among different university stakeholders;
  • Innovative and creative ability to give the University a competitive advantage
