UEAB Hosts Global Digital Innovation Forum with International Delegates.


Baraton, February 4, 2026: The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton on Tuesday hosted a
high-level global peer learning event under the UK Kenya Tech Hub – Digital Access Program
(DAP), bringing together delegates from UK, Indonesia, Brazil, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya,
and other nations for an engaging exchange on digital innovation.


Held at the UEAB Community Centre, the forum focused on Digital Innovation in Sports and
Nutrition, positioning the university as a regional hub for technology-driven solutions with
global relevance. The event brought together innovators, students, policy actors, and
international partners to share ideas, experiences, and pathways for scaling impact.
In his keynote address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Msafiri Jackson Mmamba, emphasized
UEAB’s long-standing commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. He noted that the
university has consistently been at the forefront of nurturing young innovators, providing
platforms where ideas are transformed into practical solutions.


“Innovation is part of our DNA at UEAB,” the Vice Chancellor remarked. “Over the years, we
have seen our students and young innovators rise to national and international recognition after
excelling in exhibitions and competitions. These are not abstract ideas—they are solutions
responding to real community needs.”


Prof. Mmamba highlighted past award-winning student innovations such as M-Kiondo, KIP-
Jogging, and Dishi Yetu, citing them as clear evidence of UEAB’s strong innovation ecosystem.
He noted that these initiatives have not only won accolades but have also demonstrated how
youth-led ideas can address challenges in nutrition, health, sustainability, and livelihoods.
The forum also featured student innovation pitches, a fireside chat with thought leaders in the
innovation space, and reflections from the UK Kenya Tech Hub team, who praised UEAB for
creating an enabling environment where students, faculty, and partners collaborate meaningfully.
Speakers repeatedly underscored the importance of cross-border collaboration, noting that global
challenges require shared learning and inclusive digital access. The presence of international
delegates enriched the conversation, allowing participants to compare experiences and explore
opportunities for future partnerships.


As the event concluded, a strong message emerged: UEAB is not only a centre of academic
excellence, but also a launchpad for innovation with global impact. The university reaffirmed its
commitment to empowering young people, strengthening partnerships, and advancing digital
solutions that contribute to sustainable development.
