Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Webmaster in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department, at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. The Webmaster should be reporting to the ITS Manager.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a website developer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating web development skills.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Experience with back-end technologies (e.g., PHP, Node.js) and databases (e.g., MySQL).
  • Knowledge of content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Joomla).
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • A Christian in good and regular standing.

Preferred Skills and Qualities

  • Experience in an academic or educational environment.
  • Knowledge of web compliance standards and guidelines.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) for basic design tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance the university’s websites, ensuring they are user-friendly, responsive, and aligned with the university’s branding and educational goals.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to understand their web-related needs and deliver functional solutions.
  • Implement and manage content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Joomla) to facilitate easy updates and content management.
  • Optimize website performance, including load times, mobile responsiveness, and search engine visibility.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, including bugs and performance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with web standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Integrate web-based applications and tools to support the university’s digital initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging web technologies and best practices to continually improve website functionality and user experience.
  • Perform any other tasks related to ICT Operations as instructed by the ITS Manager.
