UNIVERSITY OF EASTERN AFRICA, BARATON INSTITUTIONAL ETHICS REVIEW COMMITTEE (UEAB-IERC)

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

Welcome to the official page of the UEAB-IERC.  The UEAB-IERC is a committee that is mandated by the Commission for Science Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) to approve research proposals and functions under the National Bioethics Committee (NBC).  This committee has a review period of a maximum of one month.  Ethical issues concerning human subject research are key issues that must be addressed by every researcher in Kenya, the region and world as a whole.  Research studies involving human subjects must be conducted with the outmost benefits of the subjects in mind.  The UEAB-IERC functions to make sure that respect, confidentiality, privacy and other ethical issues of participants are maintained when research is conducted.  It is my pleasure to welcome you to work with the UEAB-IERC so that together, the goals of the ethics committee and the quality of proposals are maintained as far as ethical issues are concerned.

Prof. Jackie K. Obey

Chairperson, UEAB-IERC
