Faculty Position

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Lecturer in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. The Lecturer shall report to the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  1. Must have a Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any of the related areas from a recognized university.
  2. At least three (2) years post-qualification teaching experience (PQE).
  3. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology from a recognized university.
  4. Willing to work with students, faculty and staff from various cultures in an international setting.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  1. PhD Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any of the related areas from a recognized University.
  2. Must have a Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any of the related areas from a recognized university.
  3. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology from a recognized university.
  4. Willing to work with students and faculty from various cultures in an international setting.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Qualified candidates are expected to perform the following functions.

  1. Take responsibility for classroom teaching and be directly in charge of the educational process in his/her own courses.
  2. Arrange with the department chairperson for a substitute in case of a necessary absence from a class appointment.
  3. Serve on committees as may be asked.
  4. Serve as a faculty adviser of a student organization if asked by the administration.
  5. Attend regularly, faculty meetings, departmental meetings, general assemblies, graduation exercises, and other designated public functions.
  6. Maintain professional competency in his/her teaching area and research.
  7. Be an active member of a professional society where possible.
  8. Prepare for academic counselling by participating in an orientation programme preceding the academic year.
  9. Approve course selection of students and counselling at registration time, as well as to encourage the student on academic, social, and spiritual development.
  10. Supervise students during examinations and other times as requested by the department chairperson or an administrator.
  11. Take part in developing the department budget, in formulating department policies, and in planning department activities.
  12. Abide by the academic calendar of the University.
  13.  Inform in writing his/her department chairperson if he/she has to miss a class appointment or work.
  14. Turn in final grades on time as required.

Human Resource Manager

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Human Resource Manager at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. The Human Resource Manager will work and report to the Vice Chancellor.

Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  1. Must have a Master’s degree in Human Resource/Business/LLB from a recognized University.
  2. At least three (3) years post-qualification experience (PQE) working as Lecturer/Human Resource Manager/Legal practice.
  3. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource/Business/Laws. Preference will be given to candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Laws from a recognized University.
  4. Preference will also be given to applicants with CPS Stage 1, 2 or CPS (K).  
  5. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist Church member in good and regular standing.
  6. Willing to work with students, faculty and staff from various cultures in an international setting.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  2. Must have a Master’s degree in Human Resource/Business/Laws from a recognized University.

Duties and Responsibilities

Human Resource Manager has strategic and functional responsibilities and must have HR expertise combined with legal, business and management skills. The duties and responsibilities of the Human Resource Manager shall include and not limited to the following areas:

 

  1. Develop and implement HR policies and guidelines to eliminate the current situation of excess expenditure over income or net operating income deficit.
  2. Develop and implement HR policies and guidelines to significantly improve employee productivity and performance evaluation that are currently inadequate.
  3. Develop and implement HR policies and strategies to enhance team work and provide optimum service delivery in all academic and non-academic departments.
  4. Develop HR strategic plans, policies, procedures and guidelines to create an effective workforce for the university.
  5.  Provide legal advice to the university in decision-making to avoid court cases and other matters that have legal implications.
  6. Represent the university in court and in other legal related issues.
  7. Review the employee handbook annually as per the revised policies of the university taking into account the provisions in the government laws.
  8. Develop and review the Scheme of Service for the university employees taking into account the provisions in the government laws.
  9. Provide advice to the university administration on regular compliance with the provisions in the government laws.
  10. Supervise and manage all workers, handle complaints, maintain the service records, safe custody of workers’ reports, files and information.
  11. Notify and prepare employees approaching retirement in advance and prepare the needed approvals and documentation.
  12. Procurement and deployment of HR software and training of employees to use the software with accessibility through computers and mobile phones.
  13. Prepare for job interviews for all workers that are to be employed on full time (regular and contract) in consultation with the Vice Chancellor and keep all documentation.
  14. Prepare for induction, orientation and placement of all new employees.
  15. Organize a training/ refresher/orientation session for all workers once a year.
  16. Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly HR report to the Administrative Board on the number of employees according to departments, redeployment, performance contracting, workers issues and complaints, wage bill and monthly expenditure on each worker.
  17. Prepare and submit monthly report to the Administrative Board on the number of students on work programme including spouse employment in each department, redeployment, performance evaluation, total wage bill and monthly expenditure on each student. 
  18. Work with the Housing Committee to ensure that employees adequately accommodated.
  19. Serve in several university committees and participate in administrative board meetings when required.
  20. Provide overall supervision of workers and students on work programme in all the departments.
  21. Prepare the annual HR budget and submit to the Administrative Board for approval.
  22. Perform other duties that may be assigned to him/her by the Vice Chancellor.

 

Qualities and Abilities

  2. Ability to generate human resource data for decision-making.
  3. Ability to analyze human resource data and recommend appropriate decision to the Administrative Board.

  6. Ability to work as a team member and effective problem solver.

  1. Earned Doctoral Degree in Nursing from a recognized University.
  2. Must have a Master of Science degree in Nursing. Emphasis in any of the following areas will be an added advantage: Midwifery, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatry, Critical Care Nursing, Health Management, Nursing Research, Community Health, Nursing Education.
  3. Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
  4. Must have current practice Nursing license.
  5. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist Church member in good and regular standing with strong commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  6. High level of proficiency in English

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  1. PhD in Nursing with emphasis in the relevant area from a recognized University. The following specialization would be an added advantage: Midwifery, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatry, Critical Care Nursing, Health Management, Nursing Research, Community Health, Nursing Education.
  2. Teaching experience at the university level as a faculty member.
  3. Track record of academic engagement in research and publications and attendance at conferences, seminars or workshops.
  4. Supervised postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Carry out regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, publications, and administration
  2. Teach and supervise both undergraduate and post graduate students and undertake further research in Nursing;
  3. Conduct research and mentor faculty on research and publications
  4. Attend departmental meetings and advise students
  5. Attend and organize Pinning, Dedications, and Graduations
  6. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  7. Supervise students' laboratory and clinical work.
  8. Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and papers.
  9. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  10. Write grant proposals to procure external research funding.
  11. Coordinate training programs with universities, clinics, hospitals, health agencies, and/or vocational schools.
  12. Perform administrative and other duties that may be needed or delegated by the Dean and the Head of Department.
